Bus catches fire in KL, passengers and driver safe


KUALA LUMPUR: Seven passengers on a RapidKL bus had the fright of their lives when the vehicle caught fire along Jalan Syed Putra here, heading towards Jalan Klang Lama, on Tuesday (March 5) morning.

Fortunately, it is learnt, the passengers and bus driver escaped injury in the incident.

Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Station senior operations commander Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Razali said 16 firemen in six engines from the Hang Tuah and Seputeh stations rushed to the scene when the distress call came in at 8.06am.

He said a motorcyclist alerted the bus driver to the flames in the back of the bus.

"The driver immediately stopped by the roadside and turned off the engine,” he said in a statement.

According to Mohd Suhaimi, the bus was almost completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, he added. – Bernama
